Our Commitment

At Projects, we believe that businesses have a responsibility to help address climate change. As a Certified B Corporation, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact while creating spaces that enable other businesses to do the same.

We support the global ambition of limiting average global warming to 1.5°C, in line with the Paris Agreement and the latest climate science. We recognise that achieving this requires meaningful action across our operations, supply chain and wider community, alongside transparent reporting and continuous improvement.

This Climate Action Plan sets out how Projects will reduce its environmental impact, allocate resources, engage stakeholders and measure progress. It has been approved by the Leadership Team and is reviewed annually, with a full review and update at least every 36 months.

 

Our Climate Contribution

​

Projects' greatest opportunity to reduce environmental impact is through the way we do business.

​

Rather than every business occupying and operating its own office, our flexible workspace model enables hundreds of organisations to share buildings, meeting rooms, reception services, kitchens, internet infrastructure and communal facilities. This significantly improves the efficiency of buildings and reduces the duplication of resources that would otherwise exist across multiple individual offices.

​

We also create communities where businesses can share ideas, collaborate on sustainability challenges and learn from one another. By bringing together purpose-led organisations under one roof, we believe our impact extends well beyond our own operational footprint.

Alongside reducing emissions within our own business, we want to help our members operate more sustainably too.

 

Our Climate Targets

​

To support the global ambition of limiting warming to 1.5°C, Projects has adopted the following objectives.

 

1. Net Zero

Maintain our commitment to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and report progress annually through our Impact Report.

2. Reduce Operational Energy Use

Reduce energy consumption across our buildings through improved building management, operational efficiencies and investment in energy-efficient infrastructure.

3. Improve Sustainable Procurement

Increase consideration of environmental performance when selecting suppliers and continue strengthening relationships with suppliers that demonstrate responsible environmental practices.

Supplier performance reviewed annually.

 

4. Reduce Waste

Reduce waste generated through our operations by increasing reuse, improving recycling and embedding circular economy principles into purchasing decisions.

Performance reviewed annually.

 

5. Measure and Report

Continue measuring and reporting our environmental performance through our annual Impact Report, using this data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
 

Delivering Our Climate Action Plan

​

Buildings and Energy

​

As a workspace provider, the environmental performance of our buildings has the greatest influence on our operational emissions.

​

To reduce energy consumption we will:

• monitor electricity and gas usage across all locations and review performance regularly;

• work with landlords and facilities partners to improve heating, cooling and ventilation systems;

• continue replacing lighting and equipment with more energy-efficient alternatives as assets reach the end of their lifecycle;

• make greater use of Building Management Systems and smart controls to optimise heating and cooling and reduce unnecessary energy use;

• consider environmental performance during refurbishment projects and future fit-outs;

• encourage employees and members to adopt energy-conscious behaviours through communications and operational practices.

Success will be measured through annual utility consumption and operational performance data.

 

Sustainable Procurement

​

We recognise that our purchasing decisions influence emissions throughout our supply chain.

​

To reduce this impact we will:

• consider environmental performance alongside quality, service and value when selecting suppliers;

• favour suppliers with published sustainability commitments or recognised environmental certifications where practical;

• prioritise local suppliers where this helps reduce transport emissions and supports local economies;

• extend the life of furniture, equipment and materials wherever possible before replacing them;

• purchase recycled, recyclable or lower-impact products where commercially viable;

• work collaboratively with suppliers to encourage continuous environmental improvement.

Supplier sustainability will increasingly form part of procurement decisions and reviews.

 

Waste and Circular Economy

​

Reducing waste is an important part of lowering our environmental impact.

​

We will:

• reduce unnecessary consumption across all sites;

• improve recycling facilities and encourage correct waste separation;

• repair and refurbish furniture and equipment wherever practical rather than replacing it;

• reuse furniture and equipment between Projects locations;

• minimise packaging through supplier engagement;

• identify opportunities to donate surplus furniture and equipment to organisations that can benefit from it.

Progress will be monitored through operational reviews.

 

Sustainable Travel

​

Transport contributes to our overall environmental footprint.

​

We will:

• encourage employees to use public transport, cycling and walking where practical;

• continue providing cycle storage and facilities where available;

• prioritise virtual meetings when travel is unnecessary;

• encourage rail travel in place of domestic flights whenever practical;

• consider travel impacts when planning meetings, events and business development activities.

​

By providing centrally located workspaces and flexible membership options, we also help many members reduce commuting distances and travel more sustainably.

 

Supporting Sustainable Business

Our members are an important part of our climate impact.

​

We will continue to:

• create workspaces that maximise shared infrastructure and minimise unnecessary resource use;

• provide spaces where businesses can collaborate and share sustainability knowledge;

• host events focused on responsible business and environmental issues;

• promote examples of members delivering positive environmental impact;

• encourage businesses within our community to adopt more sustainable ways of working.

We believe helping hundreds of businesses improve their environmental performance creates a far greater impact than focusing solely on our own operations.

Human Resources

​

Overall accountability sits with the Leadership Team.

​

Day-to-day implementation is led by the Head of Operations, supported by site teams responsible for building performance and operational improvements. The Brand and Community Teams support member engagement, communications and environmental awareness initiatives.

​

Environmental performance forms part of our regular operational and leadership discussions.

​

Technical Resources

​

Delivery is supported through:

• Building Management Systems;

• utility monitoring and reporting;

• supplier engagement and procurement processes;

• annual greenhouse gas reporting;

• environmental performance monitoring through our Impact Report.

These systems enable us to identify opportunities, measure progress and prioritise future improvements.

Financial Resources

​

Environmental improvements are incorporated into annual operational budgets and capital investment planning.

Funding is prioritised towards initiatives that improve building efficiency, reduce emissions, enhance environmental performance and support long-term operational resilience.

 

Working with Stakeholders

Successfully delivering our Climate Action Plan depends on collaboration.

We will provide guidance, training and regular communications that encourage sustainable behaviours and enable employees to contribute ideas for reducing our environmental impact.

Members

We will encourage sustainable ways of working by providing shared facilities, promoting responsible business practices and creating opportunities for collaboration through our events and community programmes.

Suppliers

We will engage suppliers on environmental performance, encourage transparency and work collaboratively to reduce emissions and improve sustainability across our supply chain.

Landlords and Building Partners

As many aspects of building performance sit outside our direct control, we will work closely with landlords and facilities partners to improve energy efficiency, building systems and environmental performance.

Local Communities

We will continue supporting local businesses, collaborating with our B Corp network and sharing knowledge that helps accelerate positive environmental action.

 

Governance

This Climate Action Plan has been approved by the Projects Leadership Team and is embedded within our wider business strategy.

​

The Leadership Team is responsible for:

• overseeing delivery of this plan;

• monitoring progress against our climate targets;

• ensuring appropriate financial, technical and human resources are available;

• reviewing performance annually through our Impact Report;

• approving updates to this plan at least every 36 months.

​

Progress is reported publicly each year through our Impact Report to ensure transparency and accountability.

 

Looking Beyond Carbon

​

Projects recognises that climate action should not focus solely on greenhouse gas emissions.

​

When making decisions, we will also consider impacts on biodiversity, resource efficiency, waste reduction, the circular economy and the wellbeing of our employees, members and communities.

​

We recognise that actions taken to reduce emissions should not create unintended environmental or social harms, and we will continue to take a balanced approach that considers both people and the planet.

 

Monitoring and Review

​

Progress against this Climate Action Plan will be monitored annually through:

• greenhouse gas emissions reporting;

• energy consumption;

• waste and recycling performance;

• supplier engagement;

• operational performance;

• annual Impact Report.

​

The Climate Action Plan will be formally reviewed and updated at least every 36 months, or sooner if there are significant changes to our business, climate science or regulatory requirements.

By taking a long-term, transparent and collaborative approach, Projects aims not only to reduce its own environmental impact, but also to enable the thousands of people and businesses who use our spaces to play their part in building a more sustainable future.
